Poet in Residence – Micropoetry: Your World in One Breath with Kathryn Reese
Your world in one breath. Join local poet Kathryn Reese for these generative poetry workshops. Kathryn will introduce short forms such as haiku, cherita, the one-line poem, prose poem and micro-fiction. Kathryn will provide writing time for you to create your own. We’ll discuss variations and building short works into longer pieces. Kathryn will also provide a list of some journals and lit mags open to submissions of short form writing. Then we’ll have an optional “micro-open mic” to share the smallest poems!
Kathryn Reese is a poet living on Peramangk land in Adelaide, South Australia. She works in medical science and enjoys solo road trips, hiking and chasing frogs to record their calls for science. Her work has been nominated for Best of the Net and Pushcart prizes, has been highly commended in the Venie Hologram Environmental Poetry Prize. She is co-winner of the 2024 Heroines Writing Prize. Her poems can be found in The Engine Idling, Epistemic Lit, Kelp Journal and Australian Poetry Journal. She was a winner in Red Room Poetry’s #30in30 competition 2024. Kathryn participates in open mic nights & slams. She has read at the Heroines Anthology launch at Poetica Bondi, featured at Spoke N Slurred and in Ellipsis Poetry’s fringe show Eclipse.
