Coptic Bookbinding with Rebecca Prince
We’re excited to welcome artist Rebecca Prince back to Gawler Libraries for this fun and relaxing workshop.
Create your own unique art journal using traditional Coptic binding.
Coptic bookbinding is an ancient, glue-free technique originating in 2nd-century Egypt.
It features an exposed spine with chain-link stitches and securely sews the covers directly to folded page groups (signatures).
This method allows journals to lie completely flat when opened.
Rebecca will help you choose from a range of papers and show you how to make your own cover using beautiful, patterned fabric offcuts and acid free bookboard.
You will learn the sewing techniques for binding your journal, so you can bring it together to create an exquisite, finished piece.
Ages: Adults
Cost: $10
Bookings essential (tickets available from 24th June, 12:00pm)
