AT VICTOR HARBOR LIBRARY

A tender novel to open discussion about care at the end of life.

Author Vivien Stuart will discuss her rationale for writing Acacia House, a novel about three palliative care nurses which spans continents and cultures – but has its origins in South Australia.

Acacia House has been described by WritingWA as “a stirring work … containing transformative doses of emotional depth and philosophical questioning”.

Vivien will describe her research in Australia, South Africa and Ireland, and the evolution of the principal characters which she will bring to life with brief readings. She will briefly discuss the perils of writing a novel on a subject which is too often taboo. The presentation will offer opportunity to discuss palliative care, compassionate communities, advance care planning and voluntary assisted dying.

Vivien will be selling copies of Acacia House for $25.

She will donate all proceeds from sales to to the South Coast District Hospital Advisory Committee for palliative care in Victor Harbor.
