Lana is an AI safety PhD student at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning. As a cognitive scientist primarily, she investigates how doctors make decisions using AI and how best to mitigate potential risks from AI harms. She also uses ethics and safety principles to ask important questions about AI in our workplaces and healthcare, how algorithms may behave unexpectedly, and where humans thrive with technology.

“Machine learning has the potential to change our decision-making for better or for worse, which fuels her research philosophy.”
